8th GRADE WASHINGTON, D.C. TRIP CLUB ANNOUNCES EXPANDED PROGRAM TO INCLUDE NEW YORK CITY

LOOMIS, CA -- Board Members for the 8th Grade Washington, D.C. Trip Club recently voted to approve the expansion of next year’s trip to include stops in both Washington, D.C. and New York City. The 5 day/4 night trip is scheduled for April 16-21, 2011 and is open to all current 8th graders in the Loomis Basin and surrounding areas.

“We are very excited to be able to offer the students going on this trip a richer educational experience by giving them an opportunity to visit our nation’s capital, plus one of the greatest cities in our country,” said Holly Andreatta, President of the Washington, D.C. Trip Club. “Students will visit sites in Washington D.C., including Mount Vernon, the White House, the U.S. Capital, the Smithsonian museums, and much more. Then on to New York City to visit key historical and cultural sites, such as the Statue of Liberty and Ground Zero, a Broadway play, Rockefeller Center and even a baseball game in Yankee Stadium.”

There will be Informational Meeting on Tuesday, September 14th at 6:30 p.m. at the Loomis Grammar School Library for all interested families. Topics will include how to get registered, fundraising opportunities, trip details, and more. The club is also open to incoming 7th graders who know they want to go on the trip in 2012 and want to start their fundraising early. They are welcome to participate in all fundraisers and bank their money toward the following year’s trip.

The 8th Grade Washington, D.C. Trip Club is an independent club made up of parents in the area whose primary goal is to organize the trip and assist in raising funds. It was formed after the Loomis Union School District stopped offering the trip to it’s 8th grade students 8 years ago. Parents are also welcome and encouraged to go as chaperones. “It’s really fun for the adults to watch the kids discover something amazing they’ve never seen before and to see what they’ve learned in history come alive,” said Andreatta. “We’re hoping to get 50 kids and adults to participate. The cost of the trip for students is $2,063 and for adults it is $2,263, but we have many fundraising opportunities throughout the year to help off-set the costs.”
