Colfax High Journalism Student Leah Schafer Blogs From Vancouver Olympics 2010
Bonjour!
My first full day here in Vancouver was amazing. In case you were wondering, French and English are the two official languages of Canada (aka Beautiful British Columbia) and so all of the announcers speak twice in both languages.
Last evening my mom, sister, aunt and I all went to the ice dancing free dance competition at the Pacific Colosseum in downtown Vancouver. People from all over the world were there, from Israel to Russia, Japan to Estonia. The top ranked team was from Canada, so the atmosphere inside was insane. Everywhere you turned you were bombarded with the red Maple leaf emblem of the Canadian Flag, and every time a Canadian pair was introduced, the house went wild! Second in the ranking was a U.S. pair (Davis & White), and we cheered obnoxiously loud for them too. In the end, Canada was able to take gold, and instantly the entire Colosseum turned into the world's largest party. We weren't able to get out for over an hour, so plenty of time to soak it all in and get lots and lots of pictures. U.S. took silver, so once again, go team U.S.A.!
More tomorrow,
-Leah

Leah, You make an historic event seem immediate. Good reporting. Definitely a local angle. Great job!
